Staff Spotlight: Meet our Accounting Clerk – Kim Brinkley

May 04, 2018 | The Villager | Reading Time 2:00 Minutes

Kim Brinkley is our Accounting Clerk, and she has a short title for a long list of  responsibilities. She oversees all Independent Living bills, most of the Friendship Village payroll, and she deposits all checks for FVK into the bank.

After  apartments have been refurbished, Kim audits all the invoices that were billed, checking for accuracy. When the library transitioned over to the computer system, Kim was the one who input all the books into the library system. She took care of the Kalamazoo Public Library book rotation for quite some time. Kim is also the person who makes the Simplex cards that residents use for meals and access to the building.

Being born in Indiana, Kim actually grew up and graduated from high school in South Haven. She has two older brothers:  Mark, now living in Detroit, and Mike, in South Haven. She is fortunate to have her parents close to her as well; her dad lives one-half mile from her and her mom still resides in South Haven.

Kim earned an Associate Degree in Business from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She has been at FV for 16 years.  She and her husband, Michael, have been married for 14 years. They have a  six-year-old son, Jacob, who is an avid soccer player. Kim coached the team last fall and will coach again this spring.

Reading and doing arts and crafts projects with her son is one of Kim’s enjoyments. Jacob entered the Van Buren County Youth Fair last year in the open class and won 11 blue ribbons, a Merit ribbon and a Best in Show award!

In the summer, Kim and Michael work in the garden or in the blueberry field. They have an annual tradition of picking blueberries.

To round out the Brinkley household is a chocolate lab, Luke, that is a “huge” part of their family. And you are a huge part of our Friendship Village family, Kim. Thank you for all the bases you cover and keeping FVK running smoothly for us all!
