Growing up while her father was in the Air Force, Ashley Barry experienced a wealth of cultures and travel before her family settled in Portage in 2005. She said her favorite country to live in was Belgium, and she enjoyed the many trips her family took to the surrounding countries. Currently attending Siena Heights University in pursuit of her Bachelor degree in Social Work, Ashley joined Friendship Village (FVK) in December 2018 as a Life Enrichment Coordinator. Ashley joins a seasoned team tasked with planning and organizing the calendar of events each month.

Ashley says it’s a real blessing to be at FVK, and learn the “other part” of social work – working with a senior population. She is looking forward to learning so much from those who live here.

Her real joy in life is her 3-year-old stepson Alvie. She enjoys being a part of his life, and all of his crazy antics. Ashley likes to craft, walk in the woods, and boat in nearby Swan Lake. Her biggest adventure recently was traveling to Cuba by herself with no cell phone service and only the money in her pocket. Cuba is near and dear to her as her Grandmother is from Panama. It was the adventure of a lifetime.

Ashley’s favorite quote is, “Not all who wander are lost.” She said that sums up the many twists and turns as she discovers her best path in this journey of life.

We are excited to have Ashley and her talents as part of our team!
